The programme is called Uncanny. It was first released on 12th October and is scheduled on air every week at Saturday night 11:30 pm on BBC Radio 4. Besides the introduction, which is 3 minutes long, all episodes are 28 minutes. The audience for uncanny BBC radio are for people who do not have time to sit down and watch the news or to entertain themselves. So they listen to the radio instead as it is still entertaining and yet efficient at the same time. Uncanny can be accessed to by using the online BBC radio 4 website, on TV or on the car. making it technologically convertible.
Uncanny's genre is drama, thriller and horror. Danny Robins investigates on real life stories and paranormal encounters in the podcast. He talks with the person who has experienced paranormal events and lets them talk about their encounter on air. Robins asks them how such unusual events might have effected them, physically and mentally.
This is an interesting podcast to listen to as not only is it about something not many people experience in real life but also that they might relate to such events. Or some might just listen to it for a good spook. It informs and educates the audience, by telling real life experiences to convince them. Uncanny also promotes itself to the audience by displaying it is as a real life experience, which can occur in anyone's life, when least expected. But again, something that not many people experience. Hence why the audience finds it amusing to hear about. Also, the fact that the person who faced these chilling events, come on the show on their own will to speak of their terrifying experiences on live radio is also a big selling point. Which makes the audience more intrigued. In BBC radio 4 Uncanny case 1 : The evil in the room 611
Sound plays a very significant part in the Uncanny podcast. It makes the whole experience more immersive for the listener.. Such as the BBC radio 4 jingle shows that you are listening to BBC radio. When the radio announcer announces what show is next on the channel. Then the radio host picks up from there. Discussing the radio shows guests. Then beginning with the real life story. Voice overs are used to go back and forth between the person telling the events and to them experiencing it. Which again uses sound to describe it to you. Sound effects are also used to create meaning. Such as in Uncanny case 1 : The evil in the room 611. Where the radio guest is talking about how there use to be a lot of unpleasant noises in the door when no one was around, and how it was loud and sounded very violent. Here banging of a door recording is overlaid. To make the audience more invested in the story.
